Teeth whitening
Whitening lightens stains in the enamel with a controlled gel. It can be done in the surgery with the gums protected, or at home over a few weeks with trays made for you.
Who it is for
- Teeth yellowed by age, tea, coffee or smoking
- Patients with healthy gums and teeth
- Patients lightening natural teeth before veneers or crowns
How it works
- Examination: decay and gum problems are treated first; a scale and polish if needed.
- Shade record: the starting shade is noted.
- Application: gel in the surgery, or custom trays for home use.
- Review: result and sensitivity are checked.
Afterwards
Temporary sensitivity is common in the following days. Avoiding dark drinks and smoking for 48 hours protects the result. Whitening does not change the colour of fillings or crowns.
